Small-scale Solar Photovoltaic Project Manager

Manages small-scale solar installations, ensuring timely, budget-friendly, and compliant project completion.

This document is a model job description for a project manager working on small-scale solar PV projects, for example on residential properties. It has been developed by Solar Energy UK’s Skills and Workforce Steering Group and sets out the key responsibilities of the role, as well as the skills and qualifications expected.

Responsibilities:

Oversee all aspects of solar PV project development, from inception to completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources, coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation.

Monitor project progress, identifying and resolving any issues or delays.

Coordinate between different departments, including engineering, procurement, and construction, to ensure project success.

Conduct regular project meetings, providing updates to stakeholders and addressing any concerns.

Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.

Manage project documentation, including contracts, permits, and compliance reports.

Conduct post-project evaluations, identifying areas for improvement and lessons learned.

Foster a collaborative and productive project environment, encouraging teamwork and communication.

Manage Health & Safety, including conducting appropriate risk assessments.  

Delegate and prioritize tasks, monitoring work teams, or individual members of teams, to ensure completion of projects.

Skills:

Strong project management skills, with experience in project managing small-scale and/or multiple small-scale solar projects.

Excellent leadership abilities, with the ability to motivate and guide project teams.

Proficiency in budgeting and financial management, ensuring projects are delivered within budget and timescales.

Expertise in risk management, identifying and mitigating project risks.

Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, ensuring clear and transparent communication with all project stakeholders.

Decisive and confident decision maker.

Able to work with a variety of people.  

Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree in STEM subject; ideally Electrical Engineering, or equivalent professional experience and/or certifications.

A relevant project management qualification such as CAPM, Prince2, PMP or CSM.

An approved Site Management Safety Training Scheme qualification.
